Animal Control

The City of Waverly thru a cooperative agreement with county government, humane society and two other municipalities operate the animal shelter. The shelter is adequately staffed and of recent construction. The staff cares for abandoned, abused, neglected, lost, injured and surrendered animals. A strong emphasis is placed on the adoption of animals. We enjoy a very high success rate with adoptive animals regionally.

City Hall
   

Waverly is governed by a Mayor and Board of Alderman. One Alderman is elected by the Board to serve as Vice Mayor. The terms of office for Mayor and Alderman are staggered and are held for four (4) years. All Aldermen run at large. Each alderman chair one of the City’s working committees.

Codes & Inspection
Contact Information
The Codes Department is responsible for the issuance of building permits and flood plain management. The Codes Department develops the agenda for the Planning Commission and schedules meetings for the Board of Zoning Appeals. The department inspects building construction sites for conformation to approved plans and compliance with applicable codes and ordinance.
   
   
   
   
   

Judicial

City Attorney

The City Attorney is selected by the Mayor and Board of Alderman and serves at their pleasure. The City Attorney attends all regularly scheduled Mayor and Board of Alderman meetings, advises department heads and the Mayor on legal issues of the City and authors new ordinances as the Board may enact.

Municipal Court

Municipal Court is established by ordinance to hear and resolve citations for violations of City ordinances. The court does not exercise General Sessions and Juvenile jurisdiction. The Municipal Judge is elected by the Mayor and Board of Alderman and serves at their discretion. Municipal Court is held every other month on the second (2nd) Wednesday after the first (1st) Monday 2 P.M. in the Municipal Court Room, 103 East Main Street, Waverly TN.

Public Works
Street, Sanitation, Vehicle Maintenance and Parks all operate under the umbrella of Public Works

Street

The Street Department personnel maintain all municipal streets. Applying road salt in freezing weather to constructing storm water drainage systems and mowing street right of way are only a few examples of the daily work load of this department.

Sanitation

 
 

The Sanitation Department personnel collect solid waste from each residence within the city weekly. Commercial collection is more frequent. Curb-side recycling routes are run weekly. Chipper service is operated on an as needed basis. Vehicle Maintenance
Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, repair and overhaul of machinery and vehicles. Current vehicle inventory consists of approximately 50 vehicles as well as heavy and light equipment.
Parks
The Waverly Municipal Park is known as Asbury Park. It consist on two (2) picnic shelters, walking trails, community built playground named Grand Fun Alley, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a swimming pool. Future plans call for construction of a child with special needs playground and new restroom facilities. Park shelter reservations may be made by personal appearance at Waverly City Hall.




Senior Citizens

The Torrey Johnson Senior Citizens Center is responsible for organizing programs and activities for our senior adults. The center is open daily 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. located at 206 North Church Street, Waverly TN. Health fairs, exercise programs and potluck lunches are only a few of the programs available.

   
   
   

Water Department

Sewer Collection System

This department maintains all sanitary sewer collection lines and pumps necessary for the flow of wastewater to reach the wastewater treatment plant. New collection systems are constructed by this department.

 

 

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The plant is operated by one (1) lead operator and one (1) plant operator. The responsibility of this operation is to treat wastewater to confirm compliance with our discharge permit prior to being released into the waterways.

Water Distribution System

This department maintains all water distribution lines and pumps necessary for the flow of treated water from our water treatment plants to our customers. This department always stands ready to respond to any after business hours maintenance issues.

 

Water Treatment Plant

This plant operates an intake from the Duck River in western Humphreys County. The untreated water is pumped to our treatment plant where it is processed and tested prior to being sent into the distribution system. The plant is operated by one (1) lead operator and one (1) plant operator. The operators are responsible for the operation of 3 deep wells with an above ground filtration system. Five water storage tanks are incorporated within the water system with a large section of western and southern Humphreys County served by the municipal water system.
